Sylvan Lake is looking to break two world records when its annual pumpkin trails return from November 1-7. The community-driven event is where families can drop off their leftover pumpkins, carved or uncarved, to form a path at Lions Park.
The event was started in 2020 as a way to bring the community together during the COVID-19 pandemic. The first year, they lined up 661 pumpkins, and the numbers continued to grow, with 3,731 pumpkins counted in 2025.
The record for carved pumpkins is 4,164, and the record for pumpkins in a line is 8,672.
“I think people are really excited about the possibility of breaking the record, and who knows, their pumpkin might be the one that gets us right over that line,” explained Sydney Malyon, tourism administrator and content creator for Visit Sylvan Lake.
Once the event is finished, starting on November 9, residents can pick up the pumpkins for livestock feed or agricultural use.
“We’d love to see videos of those pigs and chickens pecking away on the pumpkins,” said Malyon.
