Thousands of rural and remote Alberta households could soon see significant savings thanks to a new provincial program aimed at making satellite internet more affordable.
On Tuesday, the Alberta government unveiled the Alberta Satellite Rebate Program, which will provide a one-time $1,000 payment to eligible residents without access to traditional broadband, helping cover the costs of getting connected via satellite.
The rebate can be applied to satellite equipment, professional installation fees, and related taxes, up to the $1,000 maximum.
To qualify, the equipment and services must be bought from an approved retailer during the window running from August 11, 2026, through March 31, 2027.
“Reliable internet access is essential for rural Albertans, and many households still face barriers to connectivity that existing federal and provincial initiatives have not been able to solve,” said Rural Municipalities of Alberta president Kara Westerlund. “The Alberta Satellite Rebate Program provides another pathway for those residents to get connected.”
Households can check if they are eligible and find more details on the Government of Alberta’s website.
March 31, 2027 is the deadline to apply for the rebate.
