Alberta Wildfire is hosting an open house in Fort McMurray this month, aimed at those eager to help safeguard communities and woodlands against wildfires.
The gathering is set for October 21 at the Fort McMurray Provincial Building, 9915 Franklin Avenue, running from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
On hand will be Alberta Wildfire personnel ready to discuss available roles and address inquiries about joining the team. Attendees can also examine and handle samples of the gear fireline crews rely on in the field.
Wildland firefighters may be sent anywhere in the province—including isolated locations—to suppress and control blazes while shielding nearby towns and forested areas.
Crew applications for the upcoming wildfire season generally become available in November, with postings for additional seasonal roles typically following in January. Positions usually span from April through October.
Beyond recruitment, Alberta Wildfire delivers both virtual and classroom-based wildfire management instruction at the Hinton Training Centre, which welcomes thousands of learners annually.
A follow-up open house is scheduled for December 8, targeting seasonal support opportunities for the 2027 wildfire season.
