Alberta’s Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services is looking into a second recent grizzly bear death.
On September 30, officers responded to a report on lease road roughly 20 kilometres north of Swan Hills.
They discovered a grizzly that had been shot and abandoned beside a roadway running parallel to the Swan River.
The following day, October 1, another dead grizzly was reported in the Deep Valley Road area between Little Smoky and Fox Creek. Investigators later confirmed the animal had been shot, its body dragged from the main trail, and all four paws removed.
Grizzly bears are a threatened species in Alberta. Hunting grizzlies has been banned in Alberta since 2006.
