The Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation is marking 150 years of Treaty No.6 with two days of ceremonies, workshops and celebration. The gathering will take place at on October 2nd and 3rd at Chief Aranazhi School, featuring a Pow Wow and community activities.
Eugene Alexis, Organizer of the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, tells CFWE that the event will also serve as an educational curve provided by council members, chiefs and community members on the signing of Treaty No. 6.
Alexis speaks on the newly built Chief Aranazhi School, named after their great grandfather who is one of many signatures on the Treaty No. 6 signed in Fort Edmonton in 1887.
Alexis highlights the two-day celebration will start off at 8 a.m. with a traditional pipe ceremony with activities to follow until 4 p.m. with day two providing a one day pow wow.
