A member of Sucker Creek First Nation, Gladue played for the Oil Barons from 1996 to 2001 during one of the club’s most successful periods.
In his rookie season, he helped capture the 1997 Alberta Junior Hockey League Title.
Gladue later played a central role on the celebrated 1999-2000 squad that won the AJHL Championship and Doyle Cup, then defeated the Rayside-Balfour Sabercats 2-1 on home ice to claim the national Junior A crown—one of the most memorable moments in Fort McMurray hockey history.
In five seasons, Gladue tallied 122 goals and 262 points, marks that still stand as the Oil Barons’ career records more than 25 years later.
Beyond the numbers, he represented the team, the city and his First Nation with pride, helping build a lasting culture of excellence.
During the on-ice ceremony, Gladue was joined by family and Oil Barons community members as his banner was raised.
Darren Mercredi of Mikisew Cree First Nation performed an honour song, with alumnus Brent Upshall assisting in the unveiling.
