Alberta Avenue transforms once again as the Kaleido Family Arts Festival marks its 21st edition, launching Friday evening and filling the street with creativity through the weekend.
Visitors can expect a vibrant mix of local and touring talent spanning music, theatre, dance, outdoor acts, culinary treats, craft makers, gallery exhibits and plenty more.
Artistic director and general manager Christy Morin describes the event as offering something for every taste, with space for all to feel welcome.
“We hope that when people come to Kaleido, they aren’t the same person going home, they see a cultural performance that actually speaks to them in a way they didn’t know could happen, and they walk away a different person.”
This year’s theme is “Hearts Full of Gusto,” capturing the spirit of throwing yourself fully into making art, moving, creating and making space for the stories of those around you.
The no-cost, all-ages celebration kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday and continues until Sunday, wrapping up with a main-stage set from Edmonton’s Rumba Caliente.
On Saturday, Juno-nominated local soul-and-roots outfit Secondhand Dreamcar takes the headlining slot, followed by Cirque Kalabanté Productions.
The festival stretches along 118 Avenue from 90 Street to 95 Street.
