Drivers in Alberta could face slowdowns on Friday as an oversized industrial component makes its way from Tofield to Fort Saskatchewan.
The massive C2 splitter, designed for industrial distillation processes, measures 135.2 metres (443 feet) in length and tips the scales at 1,157 tonnes. Standing roughly 9.4 to 9.5 metres high, the load will roll on 640 wheels, occupy the full width of the highway plus the shoulder, and move at no more than 50 km/h.
Escorted by guide vehicles, the convoy is scheduled to leave at 4:30 a.m. Friday from 6204 46 Ave. in Tofield.
The planned path is:
- Onto Airport Road heading east
- South on 46 Avenue to Highway 14 eastbound
- North on Highway 834 to Highway 15 westbound
- Then north along Range Road 220 before turning west into the Dow Chemicals facility
Arrival is expected around 2 p.m.
