The Red Deer Regional Airshow is back this week, promising three days of high-flying excitement, family fun, and aviation displays at the Red Deer Regional Airport from Friday, July 24 to Sunday, July 26.
The festivities kick off on Friday evening with Glow Night and the Flight Suit Disco. There will be food trucks, static aircraft displays, a STEM interactive area, performer meet-and-greets, live music and a spectacular evening balloon glow.
The full airshow takes flight on Saturday and Sunday, with gates opening at 10:00 a.m. both days. Opening ceremonies begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by aerial demonstrations from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
This year’s flying program is headlined by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, who are performing their final season with the iconic CT-114 Tutor jets after 55 years of service.
Other major attractions include the high-energy CF-18 Hornet Tactical Demonstration, the Canadian Armed Forces SkyHawks Parachute Team, aerobatic performers Melissa Burns and Jim Hrymack, the Historic Harvard Mark IV, a MiG-17, and several additional civilian and historic aircraft.
The airshow returns after drawing more than 25,000 visitors in 2023. Since then, the Red Deer Regional Airport has completed a major $34-million expansion, which includes an enlarged terminal, a new taxiway, upgraded airside infrastructure, and a new access road to support future growth.
