Hot weather has pushed wildfire danger higher across northern sections of the Fort McMurray Forest Area, even though no fires are actively burning right now.
According to Alberta Wildfire, the current risk level sits at high near Fort Fitzgerald, moderate around Fort Chipewyan, and low in the Fort McMurray region.
Drier vegetation means any new ignition can catch and spread rapidly. The RMWB is urging outdoor enthusiasts and residents to remain vigilant while in the forest.
So far this year, the Fort McMurray Forest Area has seen 41 wildfires.
Off-highway vehicles pose a particular fire hazard when dry grass, muskeg, or debris builds up near hot engine parts or exhaust systems.
If you spot smoldering material, douse it thoroughly with water, stir it, and soak it again until it is completely cold and extinguished.T
To report smoke or a wildfire in the area, call 310-FIRE.
