Taber has officially been named the 2026 Kraft Hockeyville Winner, beating out Tumbler Ridge, BC. The announcement was made on Saturday, April 4, during Hockey Night in Canada. Taber is the first Alberta community to win Kraft Hockeyville since Sylvan Lake in 2014.
Mayor Andrew Prokop of Taber tells CFWE that they were very excited about winning this year’s Kraft Hockeyville, but also acknowledged that Tumbler Ridge was a deserving competitor.
With this victory, Taber will receive $250,000 for arena upgrades and will have the opportunity to host an NHL preseason game in 2027. The funding will assist in restoring the Taber Community Centre, which was damaged in an explosion on December 17 of last year.
