A 47-year-old man is accused of human trafficking offences in the Edmonton area involving five women.
ALERT Human Trafficking unit says Jonathan Allard was arrested March 26 and charged with 26 criminal charges, including trafficking, forcible confinement and assault.
Investigators say they believe there could be more victims.
Police say the investigation started in June when one of his alleged victims contacted police for help.
She alleges she was recruited via social media to move to Edmonton and was then forced into the sex trade by Allard.
Police say he was allegedly involved in arranging sexual services, communicating with clients, collecting money and controlling the victims.
“We know there are at least five other victims. We would like to speak to them and anyone else who has been exploited by Allard,” ALERT Staff Sgt. Chris Hayes said in a news release Wednesday.
“These are extreme circumstances with life-altering impact and trauma.”
