The community of Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation is honoring and celebrating Chief Tony Alexis on Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 5:00 pm to midnight at Chief Aranazhi High School.
There will be a pipe ceremony, dinner, round dance, giveaways, 50/50 and more.
CFWE spoke with Elder Mustus Sr says, “Chief Alexis has done a great job for his community by providing great leadership with love for his community and more”.
Elder Howard Mustus is a member of the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation. Fluent in his native Stoney language, Howard is passionate for language preservation as a vital part of cultural identity. He has played a key role in reclaiming and revitalizing traditional beliefs and practices that were diminished due to residential schools.
Howard began his political career at 21 when he was elected Chief of the Alexis First Nation, the youngest Chief in Canada at the time, a role he held for 26 years. His leadership is deeply rooted in the values of tradition, land stewardship, and cultural renewal.
