Saskatchewan police have issued an urgent dangerous person alert for Big Island Lake Cree Nation, a First Nations community near the Alberta border.
One person is dead, three are injured and the alleged shooter is on the run, police are urging local residents to shelter in place.
The first call came to local police around 6 a.m., first responders rushed to the scene and found one person dead and three more with injuries. Police could not share the extent of injuries.
Around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, RCMP issued the warning for Big Island Lake Cree Nation and the surrounding area, which is four hours from Saskatoon and 3.5 hours from Edmonton.
Police said, “there are two dangerous persons with a gun in the area of Big Island Lake Cree Nation. The suspects were last seen on an ATV on Big Island Lake Cree Nation.”
RCMP officers are responding.
Seven health care facilities are in lockdown: Paradise Hill Health Centre, St. Walburg Health Complex, Loon Lake Health Centre and Special Care Home, Northwest Community Lodge, Meadow Lake Primary Health and Meadow Lake Hospital.
Anyone in the area should find a safe location and shelter inside with the doors locked.
