Métis Week will be kicking off this Saturday – a time to honor the history, culture, and lasting contributions of the Métis people. Communities are gathering to celebrate with ceremonies, music, and stories that recognize Métis pride and resilience.
Madame President of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government Andrea Sandmaier, tells CFWE that she’s looking forward to this year’s Métis Week – a time to honor Louis Riel and come together in celebration of Métis community and culture.
Sandmaier shares what attendees can look forward to during the Louis Riel Commemorative Walk taking place in Cooking Lake.
Sandmaier says Métis districts, post-secondary institutions, and the Rupertsland Institute are all taking part in hosting and celebrating Métis Week.
Sandmaier says Métis Week is a time for non-Métis people to learn about the culture, and for Métis citizens to take pride in what makes them who they are.
