Alberta Health Services (AHS) has lifted the Boil Water Advisory for the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, confirming that tap water is safe to drink and meets Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines.
Residences that were affected by the Boil Water Advisory should run their taps for 5-10 minutes to flush the lines. Appliances with waterline connections, such as refrigerator water and ice dispensers, should be drained, flushed, cleaned and disinfected.
At this time, the Water Conservation Advisory remains in effect for users of the municipal water treatment plant.
The Water Conservation Advisory is still in place as the potable water reservoirs need time to be refilled after the flushing process. The less water used by the community at this time will help restore water levels and lift this advisory quicker.
According to the RMWB, the results of extensive multi-day testing have confirmed that there is safe, high-quality water being produced at the water treatment plant. Enhanced monitoring and testing will continue to ensure Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines are being met.
Boil Water and Water Conservation advisories were issued for the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan on October 30 after low water levels on Lake Athabasca and strong winds stirred up lake sediments and affected the treatment process at the Water Treatment plant.
