Nakota Language Conference Aims to Revitalize Language Among Youth

The 2025 Nakota Language Conference is underway inside the River Cree Resort and Casino. With the theme of honoring the youth, the event runs until November 7th, focusing on empowering young people and leaders through language, culture and identity.

Eugene Alexis, Organizer of the Nakota Language Conference, spoke with CFWE, saying invitations were sent to Chiefs across Western Canada, as well as to anyone eager to learn and reconnect with the language.

Alexis says the language has declined in their communities and adds that the conference aims to revitalize it by engaging youth and community members through keynote speakers and workshops throughout the three-day event.
