After 11 days of extensive search and rescue efforts, Alberta RCMP and authorities have ended the formal search for missing six-year-old Darius McDougall in Crowsnest Pass.
Darius disappeared on September 21 while camping with relatives in the Livingstone Public Land Use Zone, near Tent Mountain Road. Despite an extensive search covering 22 square kilometres, RCMP say the boy has not been found and is now presumed dead.
“Upon having completed a comprehensive and thorough search of the area where Darius was last seen, he has not been located,” said RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney. “At this point, if Darius is still in the search site, it is our belief that he is no longer alive.”
The search involved helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, drones, dog teams, and ground crews from both RCMP and Search and Rescue Alberta.
While the active operation has concluded, Slaney said investigators will continue to follow up on any public tips or reported sightings. “We’ve done absolutely all we can at this point,” she said.
