Two Edmonton men, one a school teacher and another a home-based music teacher, have been arrested for alleged child sexual exploitation-related offences.
The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) said the two men shared an Edmonton home.
Katz Dawson was charged with possessing and accessing child pornography. The 36-year-old worked as a teacher at Lillian Osborne High School.
Allan Nelson was charged with possessing and accessing child pornography. The 32-year-old offered music lessons at Fiddle & Fugue, which he operated out of his home.
The home the two men shared was searched by ALERT on September 11, 2025.
The organization was led to the home following a tip provided by the RCMP’s National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
The tip pertained to a suspect sharing child sexual abuse materials online via the social media application Kik ALERT said.
Computers and electronic devices belonging to both men were seized from the home. Following decryption and analysis child sexual abuse materials was located.
Nelson and Dawson were then charged on September 16 and 18, respectively ALERT said.
The pair have been released on a number of court-imposed conditions, including not having any contact with anyone under the age of 16.
While the investigation and charges are related to online offences, the nature of the men’s employment placed them in a position of trust and authority.
ALERT is encouraging anyone with information about this case to come forward and contact police.
