Elders
The United In Treaty conference wrapped up on Thursday. First Nation and Métis leaders, Elders, lawyers, and scholars gathered in Edmonton this week for the inaugural “United in Treaty” conference. The two-day event aimed to deepen understanding of treaties and their ongoing importance.
The conference brought together nearly 260 in-person attendees, with another 40 joining virtually, including a participant from New Zealand.

The conference was specifically organized to address the implications of legislation like the federal government’s Building Canada Act and Alberta government laws that could lead to a referendum on separation in 2026. An expert panel was scheduled to address the provincial separation attempts before the conference concluded.
