Nîkânîw – one who leads the way in Cree. The Nîkânîw Indigenous Youth Leadership Program is a combination of ‘teachings and guidance of indigenous Elders and Leaders with an aquatic pre-employment program for indigenous youth’.
The broad and versatile 2-year program offers a sense of community, develops leadership skills, and equips individuals with essential life skills for the workforce, as well as components for safety within the household and outdoors. All these branches focus on teaching respect for Mother Earth, especially the element of water.
Nîkânîw started out as a swimming program for the youth and has evolved into a pre-employment program for our indigenous youth. Sponsored by Edmonton Indigenous relations, it creates the perfect development program for your aspiring youth to push them a step forward into the workforce allowing and promoting self-sufficiency with absolutely no financial commitment at all!
Registration and intake are set to open in august to September every year or monthly basis participation is available as well.

Find the Nîkânîw booth at K-Days indigenous experience inside the expo center inside Hall E.
