Five boaters became stranded on Lesser Slave Lake in northern Alberta with one man found dead on Friday July 11.
Around 10:30 p.m. Friday, High Prairie RCMP responded to a call about five boaters stranded on a sandbar in the area.
According to RCMP, the five boaters had been on the sandbar when the boat started floating away.
A 39-year-old man from Grande Prairie tried to get to the boat but was swept underwater according to RCMP.
The Big Lakes County Fire Department rescued the other four boaters.
High Prairie RCMP, Alberta District General Investigation Section, the provincial Search and Rescue dive team and many locals were involved in the search for the missing man and the boat itself.
A local helicopter spotted the boat and a local fisherman using sonar equipment was able to find the fifth boater underwater on Saturday.
RCMP said the investigation is still ongoing.
