The Edmonton International Street Performers Festival happens every year in Edmonton. It’s a 10-day festival in July. It’s also called Street Fest. The festival started in 1985 by Sheldon Wilner and Dick Finkel wanting to bring performers all around to downtown Edmonton.
Every year, performers from all over the world come. Local performers also get to show off their skills. In 2014, there were about 1500 shows, and 250,000 people came.
Street-Fest has had many different performers. Some famous ones include a high-wire artist and a Cirque du Soleil clown. There are also clowns, acrobats, jugglers, and magicians. The performers get paid mostly by the audience. People put money in hats after each show as a tip for the performers.
Corey Pickett, a London-based comedy performer who has a show called “the silent show” but describes it as the loudest silent show you will ever see. Pickett shares his thoughts on this year’s festival.
