Métis Crossing Calls on Métis Artists to Feature Work inside ‘The Lodge’

Métis Crossing is putting out a powerful call to artists across the province – seeking Métis  creators to submit their original artwork for a chance to be showcased in a landmark cultural space at ‘The Lodge’. With 40 rooms to be filled with art pieces, chosen pieces will be featured to help tell the rich, diverse story of the Métis people through art.

Grant Berg, the hired art contractor for Métis Crossing, shared his excitement with CFWE about leading the project to select submitted works by Métis artists, working in collaboration with the Métis Crossing staff.

Berg emphasizes that, to be considered, art submissions must come from individuals who are either members of the Métis Nation within Alberta or recognized Métis citizens in the province. He also notes that the artwork should capture and reflect the rich history of the Métis people.

Additionally, Berg notes that the artwork should not only honor the past but also reflect the present-day lives and contributions of Métis people, while looking ahead to the future. He adds that while paintings are welcome, other forms of art—such as sculpted paddles, leatherwork, and beadwork—will also be considered.

While there is no set deadline, Berg explains that the project will unfold in five phases, each featuring the work of eight artists, until all 40 rooms inside ‘The Lodge’ at Métis Crossing are filled with artwork. Once 40 artists are selected, each contributing one piece, the project is expected to be completed within six to seven months.
