The University of Alberta’s Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine is taking a powerful step forward in honoring Indigenous voices and experiences. A new ‘Space of Truth and Reconciliation’ has been unveiled inside Corbett Hall – featuring a stunning mural created by Indigenous-led agency pipikwan pêhtâkwan. The space is designed to foster reflection, healing, and dialogue, reinforcing the university’s commitment to Reconciliation and Indigenous Inclusion.
Esther Kim, Interim Dean of the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta, spoke with CFWE about the Serene Space, expressing hope that students will use the area as a place for reflection and to engage with the teachings of Reconciliation.

Kim highlights the presence of Cree Syllabics incorporated into the mural within the ‘Space of Truth and Reconciliation,’ noting it as an opportunity to learn about and honor Indigenous peoples, as well as recognize the many contributions that helped bring the space to life.
