RCMP have provided an update following a shelter-in-place issued last week near Lac La Biche. On March 13, Lac La Biche RCMP responded to a report of a break-and-enter in progress at an Alberta Parks Shop yard. RCMP, along with St. Paul Police Dog Services, Eastern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, Athabasca Traffic Services, and Lac La Biche RCMP, set up a containment to track the suspects.
During the arrest of a male suspect, police were called to a report of a suspicious female near the railroad tracks in the same area. The female, later identified as Caitlin Mary Brereton, 31, was arrested in connection with the break-and-enter.
Trenton Cole Cardinal, 30, from Edmonton, faces multiple charges, including break and enter with intent to steal a firearm, theft of a motor vehicle, and possession of a firearm while prohibited. Brereton, from Kikino Métis Settlement, was charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and break-and-enter with intent.
Both suspects were remanded in custody, with Cardinal scheduled for a March 31 court appearance, and Brereton released with conditions and a court date on the same day.
