An Indigenous owned company in Red Deer has developed a system that can protect critical infrastructure during wildfires.
The Rural and urban fire suppression system, or RUFUS, is a fire prevention system designed by CJS Industrial.
RUFUS is a self contained unit built in a sea can and offers 360-degree surveillance available through a phone, has an independent power supply, and generates a protective humidity bubble from 3500 gallons of water that can reach 31,000 square feet to shield properties from harm.
The unit can also be hooked up to an outside water source so it can continue to spray as long as the generator lasts.
Jason Sansregret is Metis and the CEO of the company and said RUFUS is designed to be left behind.

Sansregret hopes one day to have units in each community at risk of wildfires. One unit costs roughly $74,900 and there are a number of purchase options available including leasing, renting and rent to own options.
The company started two years ago but the idea for Sansregret goes back much farther.
