This week, Indigenous Language learners from across the country are set to convene in Saskatoon Saskatchewan for an important language conference.
The First Nations Language Keepers Gathering, hosted by the Saskatchewan Indigenous Cultural Centre (SICC) brings together Elders, Knowledge Keepers, educators, and language enthusiasts to share knowledge, strengthen connections, and support the revitalization of our languages.
Attendees can look forward to a range of workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities designed to foster collaboration and innovation in language preservation efforts.
Saskatchewan Indigenous Cultural Centre president Darlene Brander told CFWE that the conference builds momentum towards not only revitalizing, but maintaining languages long term.
The theme, “Our Sacred Languages Walk with Us,” underscores the vital role that Indigenous languages play in maintaining cultural identity and continuity through generations.
This gathering serves as a vibrant forum for language speakers, educators, advocates, and community leaders to exchange knowledge, strategies, and resources aimed at revitalizing and sustaining Indigenous languages.
