A new affordable housing development in Edmonton’s Griesbach neighbourhood was unveiled with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and dignitaries and family members of Cecil Bellrose in attendance.
The project, led by the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, has been named Cecil Bellrose Manor.
President of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government Andrea Sandmaier spoke with CFWE on her excitement to be inside the newly built Cecil Bellrose Manor, which is aimed at helping Métis citizens to get into affordable housing with occupancy set for Spring 2025.

President Sandmaier highlights Cecil Bellrose’s work within the Métis communities across Alberta, along with informing Cecil’s wife on honoring her husband by naming the building after him.

With 127 units available for future tenants, with some that have full accessible and automated units within the Cecil Bellrose Manor. Along with a focus on helping single Métis mothers and low-income families within the Métis community.

Sandmaier adds that helping to build four walls for families will aid them in thriving, along with combating the affordable housing crisis that the province faces.
