A 4.2 magnitude earthquake shook Banff National Park in Alberta on Sunday morning.
According to Earthquakes Canada, the quake struck at approximately 4:39 a.m. about 55 kilometres northwest of the Banff townsite and 70 km northwest of Canmore, recorded a depth of approximately six km.
Though the tremor was noticeable, officials say it is part of a larger pattern of seismic activity in Canada.
The country experiences over 4,000 earthquakes annually, averaging about 11 per day. Of those, only about 50 are strong enough to be felt by people.
