Fort McMurray’s largest annual pond hockey tournament, the Shootout on the Snye, is set to make its return during the WinterPlay festival from February 21 to 23.
The tournament will begin with a ceremonial puck drop at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 21, and all teams are guaranteed at least three games. Matches will be played four-on-four, with a maximum of six players per team. The event is strictly non-contact hockey. Playoffs are scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 23, concluding at 5 p.m.
The RMWB is also seeking referees to help ensure the tournament’s success. Referees will be paid $25 for each 35-minute game, and additional fundraising opportunities for community groups and organizations will be announced on January 20.
