As Albertans prepare to ring in the New Year, the RCMP is ramping up efforts to keep the roads safe. Officers will be conducting check stops across the province, targeting impaired driving and ensuring everyone gets home safely.
Police are reminding drivers to plan with a designated driver, rideshare, or public transit to avoid starting 2025 with a ticket – or worse.
RCMP Corporal Troy Savinkoff spoke with CFWE, saying that every year, over 250 people parish on Alberta roadways with 30 percent of the deaths being due to drivers being under the influence of alcohol.

Savinkoff says that more alcohol consumption occurs on events such as New Year’s Eve, adding that with the amount of attention drunk driving receives, more people are resorting to alternative methods of transportation, while some remain to drive-impaired.
