An investigation is underway after a man died in a confrontation with Cold Lake RCMP Saturday night.
RCMP responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting an attempted stabbing at a transit stop in the city. Upon arrival, two officers encountered a male suspect armed with an edged weapon.
Police said in a media release that they were forced to implement intervention options, including use of firearms to bring the suspect into custody.
Mounties said the suspect was transported to hospital, where he died.
The Director of Law Enforcement was immediately notified resulting in the deployment of ASIRT to conduct an independent investigation.
