With under three weeks to go until Christmas, Purolator and UPS are freezing shipments from some courier companies amid a growing backlog of deliveries amid the Canada Post Strike.
Purolator said the company is “experiencing service disruptions due to severe weather and a significant increase in volume.”
As it stands, it’s unclear how long Purolator and UPS are pausing shipments, although eShipper, a middleman courier business, told the Canadian Press that it’s gotten a 48-hour hold order from the companies.
FedEx is also experiencing “increased volume demands” amid the ongoing Canada Post strike, spokesperson James Anderson told CP Friday.
To manage this, “a temporary limit of five packages per drop-off has been introduced at FedEx retail locations,” he said.
With no clear end in sight for the Canada Post strike, and associated delays with other postage companies, you’ll likely be waiting a while if you order something online.
Canada Post said Thursday it was reviewing new counter-proposals submitted by the union representing more than 55,000 postal employees, who walked off the job three weeks ago.
Workers are striking due to conflicts over wages, which they say haven’t kept up with inflation, and disagreements over how to staff an expansion into weekend deliveries.
