During the season of giving, the Salvation Army is seeing an uptick of donations through their ‘Tap to Give’ campaign at select Christmas Kettles.
Major Al Hoeft, Divisional Secretary for Public Relations for the Salvation Army Prairie and Northern Territories spoke with CFWE, speaking on the rise of donations through the tap option, adding that the Salvation Army is facing additional struggles with receiving mail in donations due to the Canada Post Strike, along with encouraging donors to find different ways to donate such as online or at one of their many Holiday Kettles.
Since the late 1800s, Hoeft says the collected funds have gone towards food and toy hamper programs to ensure families are fed through the holiday season and children receive a toy under the tree for Christmas.
Hoeft speaks on seeing the reactions from families and children receiving the collection of goodwill from the community that includes toys and hampers, adding that it’s a reminder to the families that they matter.
