Heart Lake First Nation is celebrating the opening of a brand-new outdoor hockey rink, complete with a $10,000 donation of hockey equipment from All Nations Hockey and Development’s Mason Mitchell and his Kookum Miss Mary.
Mason Mitchell, Founder of All Nations Hockey and Development spoke with CFWE, saying it’s been a long time coming for the community in Heart Lake First Nation.

Mitchell adds that it was an emotional day as he witnessed the community and children help put together the boards for the outdoor rink in Heart Lake.

Mitchell is hopeful that the children within Heart Lake will get scholarships or become NHL Hockey players. Along with making friendships and connections in the sport.

Mitchell spoke with CFWE about her excitement regarding the rink’s development for children to enjoy.

Mitchell says that the children will go on to remember the rink being built and the contributions of the equipment, from 35 years dedicating her life to teaching Cree language at Koelhs School.
