The building was evacuated as crews waited for the arrival of Atco Gas representatives to ” isolate the gas feed to the building” , according to a county spokesperson.
Subsequently, less than a half hour later at 8:30 a.m. an explosion occurred which ignited the building.
Atco Gas needed to dig to isolate and turn the gas service off as the natural gas was feeding the fire. Emergency crews maintained control of the blaze.
The gas station known as Country Boyz Food Store and Country Roads Restaurant was a ” complete loss” according to Strathcona County Emergency Services.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
