The Edmonton Oilers survived a wild back and forth against the New York Islanders at home last night. McDavid had a goal and three assists, including setting up Leon Draisaitl’s overtime winner, as the Edmonton Oilers won their second straight game, defeating the New York Islanders 4-3 on Tuesday.
The four point effort for McDavid leaves him one shy of 1000 career points, he would be the fourth faster player to achieve this milestone in NHL history, trailing only Wayne Gretzky (424), Mario Lemieux (513) and Mike Bossy (656).
When asked if head coach Kris Knoblauch played McDavid long enough, he had a simple answer.
Draisaitl had two goals in the game to put him at 12 for the season and Evan Bouchard also had a goal and two assists for the Oilers (8-7-1) who have now won six straight home games against the Islanders and have gone 12-1-0 over New York in their last 13 games in Edmonton. Netminder Stuart Skinner made 19 saves for the Oilers.
Although Edmonton got the win, they didn’t make it easy for themselves, blowing a 3-1 lead in the second and third periods. While some of the goals given up weren’t to blame, Knoblauch said he was frustrated with his teams defensive breakdown for the 3-2 goal.
Up next for the Oilers will be a matchup at home against Steven Stamkos and the Nasvhille Predators.
