The City of Edmonton announced it’s partnership with the First Nations Inspection Authority to aid in permit timelines and to ensure safer building practices in a path towards Reconciliation.
First Nations Inspection Authority which has already started training on the City system, will provide electrical, plumbing and gas, building and HVAC inspections for buildings throughout Edmonton.
Nathan McDonald, owner of the First Nations Inspection Authority spoke with CFWE and speaks on the partnership with the City of Edmonton and the services that are planned to be provided to the city.

McDonald says that his company is trying to show that First Nations people can get into a trade to become an inspector, and to be a pipeline to get more involvement with inspecting their own homes within their community.

McDonald adds that more ownership needs to be taken as more safety codes officers are increasing to aid in homes on First Nations communities and to bring change for people that are wanting a safer built home.
