The City of Edmonton kicked off the Small Business Week from October 20-26 by launching the Shop Local Campaign to urge Edmontonians to out their money where their heart is.
The Shop Local campaign is part of a matching grant from the Government of Alberta to leverage $200,000 over two years towards small business support.
Nolan Carter, Senior Economic Development Strategist with the City of Edmonton spoke with CFWE and says he’s excited for the Shop Local Campaign start as theirs’s an uptick of small businesses applying to be a part of the program in time before the holiday season.
Carter adds that their is a rise in consumer spending peak as small businesses within the city go from being in the red to black, and with the Shop Local Campaign, it’s a way to encourage residents within the city to see their options for online shopping or in person.
With the Shop Local Program underway, Carter is hopeful that with the 38,000 businesses, with 95 per cent being small businesses will see more customers entering into their shops.
