The Zebra Child and Youth Advocacy Centre is encouraging many to wear a blue shirt in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month on October 24.
Samantha McLennan, Community Education Lead with the Zebra Centre spoke with CFWE on what wearing the blue shirt represents, along with announcing their opening of their new facility for more space for families to use in time of need when facing child abuse.

McLennan highlights on the number of children helped in 2023, with serving 4,362 children facing child abuse from areas such as Edmonton, Jasper, Lloydminster, and High Prairie.

McLennan speaks on their new facility as one of the rooms they created is called ‘The Sacred Room’ used for smudging and healing, adding that Zebra is wanting to work with First Nations Communities in the area to help develop the space for cultural healing for families in need.

McLennan hopes that people recognize child abuse and speak about the topic more creates more prevention within the home and the community.
