About 7,500 fewer automated photo radar tickets were issued to Edmonton drivers at intersections this past summer compared to previous years. That’s a decrease of nearly nine per cent, according to information from the City of Edmonton.
During this 2024 summer driving season — statistics from June 1 to August 31 — intersection safety devices clocked in just over 79,000 tickets, more than 90 per cent for speeding and the rest coming from red light violations.
This is the fourth summer in a row that the number of ISD tickets has gone down from the year before, with over 81,000 tickets issued in the summer of 2023.
On the flip side, the number of red light tickets went up with a near 20 per cent increase in summer 2024 when there were around 7,000 red light violations given out in comparison to 5,850 last year.
The hot spots for red light tickets in 2024 were eastbound at 100 Avenue and 175 Street and northbound at Gateway Boulevard and Whitemud Drive eastbound.
