Leon Draisatl signs to eight-year contract at $14 million AAV

Edmonton Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl will be wearing blue and orange for close to another decade.

The star centre has penned an 8 year contract with the Edmonton Oilers with an annual value of $14 million USD.

Executive Vice President of hockey operations and general manager Stan Bowman said  “This is a historic day for the Edmonton Oilers.”

Draisaitl now carries the heaviest cap hit in NHL history.

Draisaitl and Bowman sat in a news conference this afternoon and Leon spoke about his love for being an Oiler:

GM Stan Bowman spoke briefly about the upcoming challenges they will face regarding cap space having some heavy salaries in his roster but ultimately, he wasn’t willing to let a player like Leon play for a different team: 

Draisaitl was drafted in the 2014 NHL entry draft, being drafter third overall. He has scored 347 goals, notched 503 assists, and 850 career points, earning him the title of the sixth highest scoring Edmonton Oiler.
