Sucker Creek First Nation is set to it’s annual Indian Relay Races, a thrilling display of horsemanship and Indigenous culture.
Teams from across the region will compete in high-speed, bareback horse races where riders must leap from one galloping horse to another testing their skill in speed and teamwork at the High Prairie Elks Rodeo Grounds from September 6-8.
Shirley Calliou, director of the Sucker Creek Indian Relay Races tells CFWE that attendees can expect an exhilarating showcase of the culture and the sport of intense horse racing.
Calliou adds that the Indian Relay is a tool to bring more eyes and recognition to Sucker Creek First Nation and the sport of Indian Relay Racing, and exemplifies the history behind Indian Relay racing of the warrior and the horse connection within hunting and skills enhancement.
