The 2023 ESPYS awards took place last night. The awards show recognizes the best players, teams and moments in all of the sports realm.
For the third consecutive year, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid walked away with the hardware for best NHL player.
Comedian Nikki Glaser presented the award for the Best Male Athlete which featured nominees Shohei Ohtani, Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Mahomes all joining McDavid. Before the award was presented, withe the game 7 loss still fresh for fans and players, she took a few jabs at the Oilers captain and their loss to the Florida Panthers.
She talked about losing to the Florida Panthers and the next Stanley Cup that McDavid will lift, “what I’m trying to say is that nothing will stand in the way of these incredible athletes and their pursuit of greatness, except the Florida Panthers. Boy, Connor that must have hurt. To lose a game of ice hockey to a place that doesn’t even have ice.”
Team mate Evander Kane looked unimpressed as the jokes were made.
