For the third consecutive year, the Indigenous Experience, a 10 day exhibition full of Indigenous entertainment and education will return to K-Days this month. It starts up with an opening ceremony, teachings on Residential Schools plus the continued efforts of Truth and Reconciliation.
The event is hosted by the Indigenous Edmonton Entertainment Group Association, a non profit organisation with a vision to create healthy longstanding relationships among residents by celebrating cultural similarities and differences.
Lyle Donald is the President of the IEEGA, and spoke with Windspeaker Media discussing the importance of making this event accessible for non-Indigenous people.
There will be a crafters market, a career fair and a trade show featuring Indigenous story tellers, demonstrations and vendors, and Indigenous food offerings from First Nations, Metis and Inuit Villages. Donald mentions the importance of the volunteers who’ve helped over the last three years.
In addition to all the cultural teachings, there will be great Indigenous entertainment such as Ashley Ghostkeeper, Bear Grease, George Leach and the Stephanie Harpe Experience.
