A busy southside intersection is now under the microscope of the City of Edmonton, after a 3-year-old boy was struck in a cross walk late last week.
The incident, in which a pick-up truck struck a mother and her two children at the intersection of Allard Road and Allard Blvd, marks the 15th fatal collision within the city this year.
According to residents of the neighborhood, this collision could have been avoided.
A closer look into the cause of the accident is currently underway as the city conducts an in-depth look at the 3-way stop in south Edmonton.
A full analysis of the police report is expected, along with the collision history in this specific location as well as the design of the intersection to determine if additional measures are needed to prevent future accidents.
In 2023, the City of Edmonton underwent a vision-zero street lab in Allard with the biggest concern being drivers failing to come to a complete stop in the intersection.
The City of Edmonton aims to have a vision zero goal for traffic fatalities by 2032.
Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi agrees that there is still much work needed in this area:
A traffic signals review of the intersection will be taking place in the near future.
