Edmonton police have charged a 21-year-old man in connection to alleged sexual assaults at encampments.
EPS says on June 10, officers took Jeremiah Savard into custody in connection to an alleged sexual assault at an encampment near 103 Street and 98 Avenue, earlier that day.
It was reported that Savard sexually assaulted a youth at knifepoint in his tent, according to Edmonton Police Services. The youth was not a resident of the encampment.
Savard is facing charges of sexual assault with a weapon, aggravated sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, unlawful confinement and escaping lawful custody.
Edmonton Police issued a public notification as investigators believe the accused is likely to have committed similar sexual assaults against youths or adults in or around Edmonton encampments.
EPS is encouraging anyone with information to come forward as sexual contact with the accused may pose medical risk.
Individuals who have had sexual contact with the accused are advised to seek medical assistance by accessing their family physician, primary caregiver or by booking an appointment with the Edmonton STI clinic.
Savard’s DNA profile was also recently linked to a Nov. 17, 2023 sexual assault of an adult female that occurred in an encampment in the area of 111 Avenue and 82 Street.
He is now charged with sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault in relation to that incident.
Savard has since been remanded into custody with his next court appearance on Jun. 17, 2024.
