The standoff between First Nations members and Obsidian Energy appears to have been resolved.
An agreement in principle was reached between Woodland Cree Nation and the Calgary based energy company according to the company.
The blockades began back in February by First Nation members over concerns that the company wasn’t informing members and the nation about expansion plans within its traditional territories.
Concerns over earthquakes from the company’s activities were also at the heart of the matter.
Although the company was granted an injunction via court hearing to remove the blockade, local RCMP chose not to enforce it.
Production that had been halted is now being restarted.
A mediator was used to arrive at a fair and equitable agreement, according to a statement made available.
No other terms were released. The agreement between the two parties will last through the end of 2025.
