The City of Cold Lake announced an approval of $10,000 sponsorship for the Cold Lake First Nation’s Treaty 1-11 gathering titled ‘Carrying the Fire Forward’ that is set to take place in the English Bay Treaty Grounds on August 26-30.
CFWE spoke with City of Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland as he says it’s a once in a lifetime event, and highlights the importance of Cold Lake First Nation in being a major partner towards the City, and is hopeful that many other contribute towards sponsoring the event.
Mayor Copeland adds that Cold Lake First Nation was grateful to receive the funding from the City of Cold Lake, and says that the event will be a huge benefactor economically for the community.
Mayor Copeland speaks on the significance on the event, and says that several thousand people will be attending for activates for all ages for the Carrying the Fire Forward event.
Mayor Copeland is hopeful that community members that attend the event will be educated from the showcasing of the cultures of Treaties 1-11, and encourages many to get engaged with the event in English Bay Treaty Grounds.
